3 Tips for Taking Better Portrait Photographs

Feb 23, 2024

Portrait photography is a challenging genre that requires not just a creative voice and technical command, but the ability to work with people at the same time. If you are new to the genre and would like to improve your portrait images, check out this helpful video tutorial that shares three tips that will put you on the track to better results.

Coming to you from Park Cameras, this excellent video tutorial discusses three tips for improving your portrait image. As you will notice, the first tip has nothing to do with a camera; it is entirely about your interaction with your subject, namely making them feel comfortable in front of the camera. If you watch the best portrait photographers, yes, they know their camera settings and their lighting, but 90% of their focus during the shoot is on the subject and making them feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. Be sure as you progress that you are working on your subject interactions just as much as your work with your camera, lighting, and editing. Check out the video above for the full rundown.

If you would like to continue learning about the art of portraiture, be sure to check out our range of tutorials on the subject in the Fstoppers store.
